The Association of Travel Agents Brunei has been in existence since 11 March 1982. Association of Travel Agents Brunei's ultimate objective is to establish Brunei’s tourism industry, which is not an easy feat for a small nation surrounded by countries that has had years of experience in the industry. However, I believe it is achievable so long as us Bruneians provide support that is required. The uniqueness of Brunei is that it has what visitors perceive as ‘hidden treasures’ – pleasant surprises that is not encountered nor experienced in other countries. Like a waterfall (Tasek Lama) in the middle of town and our local food (ambuyat) that cannot be found elsewhere. Visitors I’ve met in the years I’ve been in the tourism industry also marvel at how green our country is.
Travelers have become savvy as access to places and information is easier. If their experience in a new location is positive, they’ll want to return and tell their family and friends about it. So first impressions in the tourist industry do count! Brunei has a great opportunity to make a good impression to visitors through our hidden treasures. While we have tough competition from other countries’ well established tourism industry, our value proposition to visitors rely on how well we can maintain existing, develop new and ultimately market Brunei’s hidden treasures. These can only be achieved through the joint efforts of the Brunei Government and the private enterprise - small and large - that make up the tourist industry in Brunei.
This is Association of Travel Agents Brunei's latest website. And to those who are visiting Brunei: “Welcome – we hope you find Brunei a pleasant surprise!
